Osun Governor Demands Police Reforms from New CP

The Osun State Government has welcomed Ibrahim Zungura as the newly appointed Commissioner of Police, who assumed duty on Monday. During a courtesy visit to Governor Ademola Adeleke, Zungura pledged to collaborate with the state government to restore peace and public confidence in the police.

Adeleke emphasized the need for police reforms and the release of individuals he termed political detainees, citing ongoing tensions following the August 15 governorship election. He raised concerns about a police operation in Ikire that resulted in two fatalities, calling for disciplinary action against the implicated Divisional Police Officer.

Adeleke outlined five requests to Zungura, including rebuilding public trust through professional policing, enhancing cooperation between the police and state government, reorganizing compromised police units, ensuring police participation in State Security Council meetings, and advocating for the release of Accord Party members arrested on political grounds.
