Coalition Urges International Community for Osun Election Integrity

A coalition of Nigerian students and civil society organizations has called on the United States, United Kingdom, and other international bodies to urge the Federal Government to ensure a credible and transparent election in Osun State scheduled for August 15, 2026. The coalition, represented by Olayinka Dada and Igwe Ude-Umanta, made this appeal on Friday at the United States Embassy in Abuja, where they submitted petitions to the US Embassy, British High Commission, European Union Delegation, and United Nations offices.

They expressed concerns regarding alleged political violence, intimidation, and misuse of public institutions related to the upcoming election. The coalition specifically criticized the recent freezing of bank accounts belonging to the Osun State Government by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, describing it as political interference.

They called for investigations into politically motivated violence and urged the US authorities to promote political neutrality and equal opportunities for all candidates in the election, emphasizing the need for international monitoring and potential sanctions for electoral integrity violations.
