Osun Governorship Election Sees Strong Voter Turnout

The Osun governorship election was held on August 15 across all 33 local government areas, following preparations initiated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The incumbent, Governor Ademola Adeleke, represented the Accord Party, while Ambassador Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji was the candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Najeem Salaam represented the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The lead-up to the election was marred by violence, including reports of maiming, killings, and threats, creating a tense atmosphere. However, on election day, voters demonstrated resilience, with many arriving early at polling stations.

Kamoru Alabi, a voter, shared his commitment to voting despite forgetting his voter’s card, emphasizing that the violence would not deter participation. Observations from the Sunday Tribune monitoring team noted that voters were present at polling locations before the official start time, indicating a strong desire to exercise their democratic rights.
