Adeleke's Osun Victory Unchallenged as Petition Deadline Passes

Ademola Adeleke, the Governor of Osun State, won the governorship election held on August 15, 2026, with 511,067 votes, defeating Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 444,815 votes. The election results were declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) State Returning Officer, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole.

Following the election, the constitutional 21-day period for filing petitions to contest the results expired on Saturday, with no petitions lodged by any of the 14 political parties that participated in the election. This development occurred after Oyebamiji publicly congratulated Adeleke and encouraged APC members to focus on preparations for the 2027 general elections.

He emphasized the need for party unity and grassroots mobilization, urging members to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's re-election bid and other APC candidates in Osun State for the upcoming elections.
