Police Blame Hoodlums for Ikire Killings, Oyetola Responds

On Monday, the Osun State Police Command reported an attack by suspected hoodlums in Ikire, which led to the deaths of two civilians, Nurení Sobowale, 49, and Saheed Akinrole, 43. The incident occurred around 11 am when a police patrol team, including the Divisional Police Officer of Ikire Division, responded to a distress call regarding an alleged abduction.

Upon arrival, the officers were ambushed by unidentified assailants who opened fire and successfully snatched an AK-47 service rifle from the police. The attack resulted in serious injuries to two police officers, who were initially treated at a nearby hospital before being referred to the University College Hospital in Ibadan for advanced care.

The police recovered the patrol vehicle, which had multiple bullet holes and a destroyed windscreen, along with nine expended ammunition shells from the scene. Newly deployed Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, visited the site for assessment and ordered a comprehensive investigation to apprehend the perpetrators.
