INEC Distributes Election Materials Ahead of Osun Poll

On Thursday night, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) commenced the distribution of sensitive materials to the 30 local government areas of Osun in preparation for the governorship election scheduled for Saturday. This distribution was supervised by the Osun Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mrs Oluwatoyin Babalola.

The process had been delayed due to a Federal High Court judgment that mandated INEC to include the Social Democratic Party (SDP) on the ballot, leading to the printing of additional ballot papers and result sheets. As of 11:30 p.m., buses were departing from the Central Bank of Nigeria premises in Osogbo to deliver the materials.

Mr Umar Mohammed, Senior Programme Manager at Kimpat Development Initiative, described the arrival of materials as encouraging, noting initial concerns about potential delays due to the court ruling. He commended INEC's strategy to prioritize difficult-to-access local governments but expressed worries about possible rainfall disrupting the distribution.
