INEC Enhances Security Measures for Osun Elections

Victoria Eta-Messi, the Director of Voter Education and Publicity at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), announced that INEC, in collaboration with security agencies, has heightened security measures for voters at polling units in Osun State. She indicated that potential flashpoints have been identified, and the pre-election atmosphere is tense, with a significant concern over vote trading and voter card theft.

During her interview on Arise TV’s ‘Prime Time’ show, she emphasized the need for community engagement, particularly targeting youth who are often involved in vote trading. Eta-Messi confirmed that security plans have been developed, with military support in areas suspected of potential violence.

The Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) has played a crucial role in security planning, with the Nigeria Police Force as a lead agency. The commission aims to ensure the safety of voters and the integrity of the electoral process in the identified volatile areas.
