INEC Flags 385 Flashpoints Ahead of Osun Governorship Poll

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has flagged 385 flashpoints and 200 difficult terrains in Osun State as part of its preparations for the upcoming governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026. Oluwatoyin Babalola, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Osun State, disclosed this information during a meeting with security agencies and religious leaders at the Nigeria Police Force headquarters in Osogbo.

The meeting was attended by Adegoke Fayoad, Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the South West, and other security officials. Babalola stated that a risk assessment exercise was conducted across 30 local government areas, identifying areas that are hard to access and may pose challenges during the election.

She urged security agencies to intensify their efforts to ensure a peaceful electoral environment, emphasizing that without peace, voter turnout would be negatively affected. The current governor, Ademola Adeleke, is seeking re-election against Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress and Dr.

Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress.
