INEC Identifies 385 Flashpoints for Osun Election 2026

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has identified 385 flashpoints and 200 difficult areas in Osun State in preparation for the governorship election set for August 15, 2026. Hon.

Funmiso Babarinde, the chairman of the IMOL Campaign Council, praised INEC for its proactive approach to ensuring peaceful and credible elections. He emphasized the importance of early engagement with stakeholders and sharing relevant information to aid preparations.

Babarinde called for the commission to announce timelines for collecting permanent voter cards, enabling eligible voters to obtain them ahead of the election. He urged INEC to provide updates on voter registration data and certified voter lists to political parties, in accordance with the electoral act, to facilitate verification and build trust in the electoral process.

Babarinde noted that credible elections depend on transparency and inclusiveness at every stage, not just the absence of violence, and reiterated the commitment of the IMOL Campaign Council to peace and responsible conduct by political actors for the future of Osun's democracy.
