177 Arrests Made During Osun State Elections

During the Osun State elections, a total of 177 arrests were made, including 33 individuals in Ede on Friday and 143 others apprehended in the early hours of Saturday near Irewole Local Government Area. These arrests were based on allegations that the individuals were mercenaries brought in to vote illegally.
One person was also arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) for allegedly leading thugs to disrupt the election process at Ward 4, Unit 13, Iroyin Ayo polling unit in Ejigbo. Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Ishaq, stated that the arrests followed intelligence reports regarding the presence of outsiders intending to vote.
He acknowledged minor issues but noted that over 90 percent of the election was successfully managed in terms of security. Ishaq commended the cooperation of the public and assured the safety of ad-hoc staff, primarily NYSC members, during the election process.
Commissioner of Police Samuel Etaifo Erale also monitored polling units to ensure peaceful conduct.
