Police Arrest 295 Suspects During Osun Governorship Election

During the Osun State governorship election held on Saturday, the police arrested 295 suspects linked to various incidents. Following screening, 293 of these suspects were released on bail, while two suspects remain in custody for further investigation and prosecution.

Force spokesman Ani Iniedu confirmed that the arrests were part of enhanced security measures aimed at ensuring a peaceful and credible electoral process. The police had previously warned political actors and stakeholders against actions that could undermine the election, stating that violators would face prosecution.

In contrast, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, represented by spokesman Afolabi Babawale, reported no arrests but indicated that comprehensive security structures were established across local government areas to deter potential troublemakers. The Corps deployed a multi-layered security architecture, including armed and unarmed personnel, to monitor polling units and electoral materials effectively.
