Adeleke Wins 2026 Osun Governorship Election, Celebrations Erupt

On Sunday, following the declaration of Ademola Adeleke as the winner of the 2026 governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), jubilation spread across major towns in Osun State, including Osogbo, Ile-Ife, and Ede. Adeleke, representing the Accord Party, received 511,067 votes, defeating Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 444,815 votes.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished third with 17,180 votes. The Returning Officer, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, reported that out of 1,005,800 total votes cast, 985,079 were valid, while 20,721 were rejected.

Adeleke won in 19 of the 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won in 11. Celebrations included dancing and singing, with residents expressing satisfaction with the election's peaceful conduct and calling for improvements in future electoral processes.

Osun State Commissioner for Transportation, Olusesan Oyedele, commended INEC and security agencies for their roles in the election.
