Osun State Election: INEC to Announce Winner Today

The Osun State governorship election is underway, with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) expected to declare the winner today. The election, primarily contested between Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Accord party and Asiwaju Muniru Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), saw a significant voter turnout despite incidents of pre-election violence.

As of 8:48 PM on Saturday, INEC had uploaded results from 3,292 polling units, representing 87.48% of the total, showing Adeleke leading with 455,254 votes compared to Oyebamiji's 386,132 votes. The election faced challenges, including ballot box snatching and disruptions, despite a strong security presence.

Notably, 97-year-old Pa Isaac Adeniran Adesanmi participated in the voting process, overcoming initial issues with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS). The election's atmosphere was generally peaceful, with various demographics, including elderly individuals and Persons Living With Disabilities, actively voting.
