Adeleke Wins Osun Re-election, Implications for 2027

On August 15, 2023, Governor Ademola Adeleke secured re-election in Osun State, representing the Accord Party, with a total of 511,067 votes. His main opponent, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), garnered 444,815 votes, resulting in a winning margin of 66,252 votes.

This election is significant as it is the last off-cycle poll before the January 2027 presidential election, positioning Osun as a focal point for opposition strategies. Adeleke's campaign emphasized continuity and workers' welfare, while Oyebamiji's campaign promised change.

The governor won in 19 Local Government Areas, including Ede North, Ede South, and Ife Central, while Oyebamiji won in 11 LGAs, including Ilesha East and Ife South. President Bola Tinubu congratulated Adeleke on his victory, acknowledging the mandate given to him for another four years.
