Police Investigate Speaker's Siege Allegation on Election Day

On election day, Saturday, the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, alleged that armed men laid siege to his residence around 6:00 am. The Nigeria Police Force, represented by spokesperson Anietie Iniedu, responded to the complaint but could not confirm the siege at Egbedun's home.

Officers were dispatched to the location, but no evidence of a siege was found. This allegation raised significant security concerns, particularly as it coincided with the opening of polling across Osun.

Iniedu also reported a separate incident where police arrested 300 individuals at the residence of an unidentified political stakeholder, describing them as "300 unaccounted-for persons." The police have not linked these arrests to Egbedun's allegations, but both incidents occurred on the same election morning, heightening public interest in the security situation during the election.
