Alex Otti Survives 2015 Assassination Attempt in Abuja

Abia State Governor Alex Otti recounted a narrow escape from an assassination attempt that occurred in July 2015 during an address at the Abia Solemn Assembly and Covenant Renewal Service in Umuahia. Otti described how approximately 12 armed men stormed his residence in the Maitama area of Abuja, killing two policemen who were guarding the property while searching for him.

At the time, Otti was in Abuja attempting to arrange a meeting that was repeatedly postponed. He decided to leave for Owerri to attend an election tribunal challenging the outcome of the 2015 governorship election, despite his friends' objections.

That night, gunmen attacked his residence, believing he was still there, but he had already departed. Otti reflected on this incident as an act of divine intervention, noting that the attackers moved to an adjoining compound after failing to find him.
