Governor Otu Calls for Impact Focus at Humanitarian Awards

On 16 September 2026, during the 2026 Humanitarian Merit Awards and Symposium in Calabar, Cross River State Governor Prince Bassey Otu emphasized the need for the State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to prioritize measurable impacts on vulnerable citizens over ceremonial events. Represented by Lawrencia Ita, the Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions, Otu stated that the annual awards should serve as a period of stock-taking to assess the ministry's achievements.

He highlighted that the theme, ‘Strengthening Global Solidarity and Empowering Local Communities,’ aligns with his government's vision, but the true measure lies in the positive effects on lives and communities. Dr. Helen Isamoh, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, noted the event's role in reflecting on partnerships and renewing commitments to humanitarian causes.

Ten distinguished individuals, including Dr. Martina Goshwe, the wife of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, received Humanitarian Merit Awards.
