Eastern Afghanistan Hit by Deadly Earthquake

A powerful earthquake and subsequent aftershocks have devastated eastern Afghanistan, resulting in over 800 fatalities and numerous injuries. The earthquake struck at midnight, with its epicenter recorded near Jalalabad in Nangarhar Province.

The shallow depth of the quake, combined with aftershocks, intensified the destruction, leaving hundreds of homes flattened and many residents trapped under rubble. The Taliban authorities reported coordination with the United Nations to provide emergency aid to the affected areas.

The rescue operation is currently underway in Kunar Province and neighboring Nangarhar, with efforts focused on assisting the injured and trapped individuals amidst the widespread devastation.
