Oxfam Empowers North-East Communities for Development

Oxfam Nigeria, alongside partners including the EU, German Cooperation, Cruden, CODERHI, and Yaharakai Foundation, has initiated a program to empower community stakeholders in Adamawa and Borno states. This initiative aims to enable these communities to take charge of their development needs in the post-insurgency era.

The program, titled “Support to Improving Social Cohesion through Community Development Planning,” involved training local government officials, including directors and financial officers, on the National Chart of Accounts (NCoA), a standardized budgeting framework approved by Nigeria’s Governors Forum. Beneficiaries included community leaders and development actors from Guyuk, Biu, and Kwaya Kusar local governments.

Oxfam project coordinator Samuel Lashon emphasized the importance of community ownership in development. Beneficiary Charles Samson noted the project has allowed communities to generate local funds for development, while Zainab Ibrahim stated that the grants provided would significantly improve living conditions in their communities.
