UN and Borno State Collaborate for Sustainable Development

The fourth meeting of the Project Board of the United Nations Offer in Support of the Borno Model and the Steering Committee of the Peacebuilding Fund took place in Maiduguri. UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, Mr. Mohamed Malick Fall, stated that the collaboration among government, donors, and UN agencies is vital for addressing challenges like conflict and displacement.

He noted the establishment of a legal foundation for the Borno Model as a significant political advancement. Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, praised the model as a reflection of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum’s leadership, aiming to create a common funding mechanism to tackle Borno’s issues.

Governor Zulum acknowledged the meeting's importance in fostering partnerships for peace and development, highlighting the need for investments in infrastructure and skills to transform Borno into an economic hub. Over the past seven years, the Borno State Government has allocated more than 70% of its budget to security.
