Oyo State Compensates Property Owners for Road Project

The Oyo State Government has initiated compensation payments for property owners affected by the ongoing expansion and asphalt reconstruction of the Ojoo Akinyel Road in Ibadan. This exercise is part of the government's efforts to balance infrastructure development with the fair treatment of residents impacted by the project.

William Akin and Funmilayo disclosed this during an interactive session with affected property owners, emphasizing that the compensation process follows government approval to ensure no resident is unfairly treated. The initiative aims to expand the economy of the state and establish it as a business hub.

Upon completion, the road expansion is expected to boost agricultural business and create opportunities for people, including the development of an inland dry port and a railway station. Governor Seyi Makinde has mandated the ministry to process documents for affected property owners without delay.

The first phase of the compensation exercise has identified 65 property owners, with 22 already compensated, while others are undergoing verification. The government has cautioned against bribery in the compensation process.
