Oyo State Reports 5 New Lassa Fever Cases, 1 Death

The Oyo State Government has confirmed five new cases of Lassa fever, with one recorded death. Dr.

Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, the State Commissioner for Health, announced the outbreak during a press briefing in Ibadan on Friday. The state government has activated its emergency response framework to manage the situation, which includes coordinating multi-sector interventions in line with national guidelines from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and global standards set by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Governor Seyi Makinde has approved the release of emergency funds to facilitate a rapid operational response structure. A comprehensive action plan has been developed and implemented, alongside intensified surveillance efforts, including active case searches and monitoring of 200 identified contacts.
