Oyo State Nabs 55 Environmental Offenders in Ibadan

In August 2026, the Oyo State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources reported the apprehension of 55 individuals for various environmental infractions in Ibadan, the state capital. The ministry's Environmental Vanguards conducted the arrests, emphasizing their commitment to addressing environmental violations seriously.

Prince Dotun Oyelade, the Commissioner for Information, announced this development in a statement made available to journalists. Ademola Aderinto, the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, confirmed that the offenders were prosecuted and convicted in accordance with the law.

This initiative is part of the ministry's intensified efforts to monitor and enforce compliance with environmental regulations, ensuring a clean and healthy environment throughout the state. Aderinto warned residents and business owners against activities that could harm the environment and urged public cooperation in adhering to environmental regulations, proper waste disposal, and reporting infractions.

He reiterated that open dumping and refuse disposal on road medians are prohibited, and waste must be managed through accredited contractors.
