Ogun State Government Initiates Clean-Up in Ogijo

The Ogun State Government is actively engaged in a clean-up exercise in Ogijo, located in the Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State, to combat lead contamination. This initiative is being executed by the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), which has begun evacuating illegally dumped slags from affected communities.

The remediation exercise commenced earlier in the week and is part of the government's broader efforts to tackle environmental concerns linked to lead contamination and hazardous materials in the industrial town. The evacuation aims to eliminate potential sources of lead contamination and mitigate risks to residents and workers.

Hon. Kehinde Bello, the General Manager of OGEPA, assured residents of the government's commitment to a thorough clean-up and urged community cooperation to prevent further environmental contamination. The Ogun State Government is dedicated to sustaining the remediation efforts until the affected areas are adequately restored, with the ultimate goal of ensuring a safe and healthy environment for the Ogijo community.
