Oyo State Enforces House-to-House Waste Collection Policy

On Thursday, Hon. Ademola Aderinto, the Oyo State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, announced the commencement of enforcement for a house-to-house waste collection policy across Oyo State. During the flag-off of the enforcement exercise, Aderinto stated that environmental officers from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources would inspect residential buildings, business premises, and other facilities to ensure adherence to waste management regulations.

This initiative aligns with state laws requiring proper waste disposal arrangements by residents and businesses. Aderinto emphasized that the enforcement aims to tackle environmental, aesthetic, economic, and public health issues linked to improper waste management.

Inspections will verify if premises have appropriate waste bins and are registered with designated waste consultants. Buildings lacking required waste bins will receive abatement notices, allowing a 48-hour compliance period, after which enforcement actions, including closure of non-compliant premises, will be taken.

Residents are encouraged to report any accredited waste collector who fails to evacuate waste as required.
