Ogun State Promotes Tree Planting for Climate Resilience

On Saturday, during the 2026 Ogun Tree Planting Day at Orange Valley Estate, Governor Dapo Abiodun, represented by Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele, urged residents of Ogun State to view tree planting as a continuous environmental duty rather than a one-time government initiative. The theme, “Root for the Future: Plant a Tree, Heal the Earth,” highlighted the urgent environmental challenges faced by communities, including rising temperatures and biodiversity loss.

Abiodun stressed the need for participants to ensure the survival and growth of the trees planted. He acknowledged the Federal Government's environmental initiatives and stated that Ogun would align with these objectives through investments in afforestation and renewable energy.

The annual tree-planting program has expanded to include schools, corporate organizations, and community members. Olanrewaju Saka, Head of Service, and Taiwo Oludotun, Commissioner for Forestry, also encouraged collective responsibility for environmental protection and noted the revival of six forest reserves under the Abiodun administration.
