OYRTMA Replaces Stolen Manhole Covers in Ibadan

On Tuesday, August 11, 2026, the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) initiated the replacement of stolen manhole covers with durable concrete covers in Ibadan, specifically in the Apata area. This intervention, supervised by Major Adesagba Adekoya (retd.), aims to safeguard lives and prevent accidents caused by open manholes.

Major Adekoya emphasized the hazards posed by uncovered manholes, particularly at night and during rainfall, and noted that the dangerous spot along Apata Road had contributed to numerous accidents. The decision to use concrete covers is intended to provide a more durable solution and reduce vandalism.

He urged residents to refrain from damaging public infrastructure and to report any road hazards. The initiative received commendation from the Oyo Police Force, represented by ASP Okphor Kingsley, and from Mr Oluwadamilare Ale, Chairman of the Okada Riders Association, who acknowledged the positive impact of the intervention on road safety.
