Bode George Urges NJC to Safeguard Judicial Independence

Bode George, a member of the PDP Board of Trustees and the Atona Oodua of Yorubaland, addressed journalists at his Ikoyi, Lagos office, revealing that he had written an open letter to the Chairman of the National Judicial Council (NJC). In the letter, he urged the NJC to protect the sanctity and independence of the judiciary, citing concerns over public confidence in the justice system.

George explained that the PDP Board of Trustees had instituted a suit against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to compel it to comply with existing judgments from the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, and Federal High Court regarding the party's leadership under Chief Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN). He criticized the court's dismissal of the case as a waste of judicial time and the awarding of costs totaling N150 million against the PDP and its counsel.

George warned that any perception of political interference in judicial decisions could undermine public trust in the courts, emphasizing the judiciary's role as the guardian of the Constitution.
