Bode George Urges NJC to Protect Judicial Integrity

Chief Olabode George, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and member of its Board of Trustees, has called on the National Judicial Council (NJC) to uphold the integrity and independence of the Nigerian judiciary. This appeal follows a court judgment that dismissed a suit initiated by the PDP Board of Trustees, which sought to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize the faction led by Chief Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN) based on existing Supreme Court and Court of Appeal judgments.

The court dismissed the suit as a waste of judicial time, imposing costs of ₦140 million against the Board of Trustees and ₦10 million against its counsel. George described this outcome as troubling, emphasizing the fundamental constitutional issues at stake regarding the enforcement of court judgments.

He criticized the Wike-backed faction of the PDP for purportedly expelling permanent members of the Board of Trustees, arguing that such actions are inconsistent with the party's structure. George urged the NJC to ensure that judicial decisions are free from political influence to maintain public confidence in the judiciary.
