Lai Mohammed: PDP Would Have Won with Obi's Support

Lai Mohammed, a former minister, claimed that the People's Democratic Party (PDP) would have secured victory in the 2023 presidential election if Peter Obi had not left to run as the Labour Party candidate. During an appearance on Edmund Obilo's podcast, "State Affair," he argued that Obi's departure split the opposition vote, altering the electoral dynamics.

Mohammed dismissed claims that Obi won the election, stating that he could not secure even 10 million votes. He emphasized that the Labour Party candidate did not win the election and was not unfairly denied victory.

Mohammed maintained that the results of the 2023 presidential election were clear, citing constitutional provisions that require a candidate to secure the highest number of votes and at least one-quarter of the votes in two-thirds of the states. He reiterated that Obi did not meet these thresholds and referred to the narrative of Obi as a major electoral threat as incorrect.

Mohammed also mentioned ongoing diplomatic efforts to counter misinformation regarding the election's legitimacy.
