Senate Awaits ICPC Report on PFIPC Controversy

The Nigerian Senate is currently awaiting a report from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) concerning the controversy involving the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC). Senator Suleiman Abdulrahman Kawu from Kano South raised a motion urging the Senate to investigate the matter, which he claims is linked to the 2026 budget.
Kawu highlighted that the PFIPC was described by senior presidential officials as a "fake" and "unauthorized entity" that was included in the 2026 Appropriation Act with an allocation of ₦1,302,978,784. This amount includes ₦802.98 million for personnel costs, ₦200 million for overhead, and ₦300 million for capital expenditure.
President Bola Tinubu has directed the ICPC to conduct an investigation and produce a report within 30 days. The Senate, while waiting for the ICPC's findings, has also been urged to conduct its own investigation into the budgetary issues raised.
The controversy has sparked discussions about the integrity of Nigeria's budget preparation process.
