Borno State Distributes 5 Million Mosquito Nets to Fight Malaria

The Borno State Government, in collaboration with the Malaria Consortium, has initiated the distribution of five million mosquito nets to combat the malaria threat in the state. The flag-off event took place in Maiduguri on Thursday, with Baba Malam Gana, the State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, emphasizing the importance of ensuring that the nets are not hoarded or resold.

A tracking device will be introduced to monitor the distribution process, ensuring accountability from storekeepers. The distribution committee will consist of health workers, traditional institutions, local government officials, religious leaders, civil society, and military police.

This initiative positions Borno State among four states in Nigeria receiving such a significant number of nets. Fati Suleiman, the program manager for the Malaria Consortium, highlighted the critical role of this intervention in the fight against malaria, particularly during the high transmission season, aiming to save lives and alleviate the burden on families and the healthcare system.
