Bello El-Rufai Thanks Peter Obi for Support During Father's Detention

Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, a member of the House of Representatives representing Kaduna North, stated that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, has provided him with valuable life lessons. In a video shared online, Bello mentioned that several politicians, including Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, have called to ask about his father, Nasir El-Rufai, who is currently detained.

Bello, who serves as the Chairman of the Committee on Banking Regulations, expressed particular appreciation for Obi's calls, noting that he had been critical of Obi in the past. He reflected on how these calls have taught him a lesson in life at the age of 38.

Nasir El-Rufai was arrested by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission on February 18, 2026, due to alleged fraud during his tenure as governor. He faced multiple arraignments, including a 10-count money laundering charge, and was granted bail in May 2026 by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik.
