Obi Challenges Umahi to Qualify Before Debate

Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, responded to Dave Umahi's challenge for a public debate by stating that Umahi must first become a presidential candidate before engaging him. Obi made these remarks during an interview with media entrepreneur Chude Jideonwo.

He argued that the issues surrounding federal road conditions, which Umahi criticized, have already been resolved, prompting the government to begin repairs. Obi maintained that the debate should be reserved for presidential candidates, likening the situation to a football team that cannot challenge for a World Cup without qualifying.

He insisted that public office holders, such as ministers, should not participate in presidential debates, which are traditionally reserved for those seeking the highest office in the nation. Obi also referenced criticisms of Bola Tinubu's administration regarding infrastructure projects in the southeast.
