Umahi Explains Obi's Refusal to Debate Publicly

David Umahi, the Minister of Works, addressed the refusal of Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State and Labour Party presidential candidate for the 2023 elections, to engage in a public debate. Umahi stated that Obi declined the invitation because he knew he could not defend his record when compared to Umahi's achievements in public office.

Umahi's comments were made in a statement released on a Sunday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Franci Nwaze. He argued that the debate was intended to allow Nigerians to assess the records of both former governors and determine whose administration delivered greater results.

Umahi emphasized that Obi's tenure lacked democratic local government elections and claimed that Obi's financial management did not translate into significant infrastructural development. He maintained that any candidate seeking to lead Nigeria should be prepared for public scrutiny of their records in office.
