Adeyemi Demands Public Hearing Over PFIPC Allegations

Adeniyi Adeyemi, the self-acclaimed Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), has declined an invitation from the House of Representatives ad hoc committee to meet privately while he is in police custody. Adeyemi expressed his willingness to appear before the lawmakers but insisted that the meeting must be public, allowing Nigerians to hear his responses to the allegations against him.

This position was articulated in a statement by his lawyer, Ademola Oyedokun, who emphasized that fairness requires Adeyemi to defend himself publicly, as all other witnesses have done. Oyedokun referenced Section 89 of the Constitution, which empowers the National Assembly to summon individuals for investigations, urging the committee to use this power to ensure Adeyemi's attendance at a public sitting.

He clarified that while criminal allegations against Adeyemi will be addressed in court, the inquiry by the House pertains to the PFIPC's establishment and activities, which the public deserves to hear about.
