Presidential Aide Calls for Reform Amid PFIPC Scandal

Tunde Rahman, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Special Duties, addressed the PFIPC scandal, urging for a fair investigation and institutional reforms. He cautioned against reducing the issue to mere individual prosecutions, highlighting the broader implications for national integrity and budget processes.

Rahman noted that the scandal raised significant concerns regarding the verification of federal appointments and the integrity of financial operations within government institutions. He referenced the ongoing investigation into allegations of fraud and forgery involving Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew and others, which includes eight counts of fraud.

Rahman emphasized the necessity for stronger budget integrity measures, linking every allocation to legally established agencies and proposing a public appointment verification portal. He also pointed out the irregularities in the PFIPC's operations, including the opening of accounts without legal status, and called for forensic audits to ensure accountability and prevent future occurrences of such fraud.
