Plateau Governor Calls for Regional Security Strategy

On Monday, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang advocated for a regional security strategy to combat escalating insecurity in the North-Central geopolitical zone. Speaking at the 2026 North-Central Security Summit in Makurdi, Benue State, organized by the Ministry of Defence and the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement, North-Central, Mutfwang stressed the importance of a collective response to the security challenges facing the region.

He criticized the prevailing narrative that the violence is solely due to farmer-herder clashes, asserting that the nature of attacks indicates a more organized threat. Mutfwang described the situation as an invasion of communities and a threat to national sovereignty, highlighting the plight of displaced persons in Plateau State.

He urged leaders to confront insecurity urgently, calling for enhanced intelligence gathering and inter-state cooperation among security agencies to disrupt infiltration routes used by attackers. Mutfwang emphasized the need for a united, intelligence-driven approach to effectively address the security crisis.
