Police Arrest Ifechukwu Denni Over Fake Tinubu Voice Note

The Nigerian Police Force arrested Ifechukwu Denni, identified as the suspect behind an AI-generated voice note that imitated President Bola Tinubu. The arrest was announced by Bayo Onanuga, the President's Special Adviser on Information Strategy, on Thursday.

The controversy began on May 27, 2026, when a video featuring the AI-generated voice, resembling Tinubu's, went viral. The clip, shared by social media activist Martin Vincent Ots, known as VeryDarkMan, contained inflammatory statements, including calls for Peter Obi to step down ahead of the 2023 elections.

Despite the video's popularity, investigations revealed that it was not posted by Ots and that the audio was manipulated. The Nigerian Police's crack team confirmed Denni's arrest after a week-long investigation.

Onanuga described the incident as a clear case of egregious abuse of social media platforms, and fact-checkers confirmed that the original video contained no fabricated audio. Details regarding the charges Denni faces were not available at the time of the report.
