Police Arrest Three Cult Members for Student Murder

On June 29, 2026, the Kwara State Police Command arrested three suspected members of a notorious cult group involved in the abduction and subsequent murder of Sodiq Durodola Olaniyi, a 29-year-old indigenous student from Oyo State. The operation was led by Toun Ejir Adeyemi from the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) following credible intelligence.

The suspects, identified as Adeoy Babatund Alimi (23, alias Solar), Bernard Kayod (25, alias KK), and Owoyemi Bashiru (27, alias GDP), were apprehended after a coordinated tactical operation that identified their hideout in Ilorin metropolis. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are part of a violent cult group responsible for the crime.

During interrogation, they confessed to their roles in the abduction. The investigation further indicated that the criminal gang consists of 13 members, with nine currently at large.

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining members and dismantle the criminal network. The suspects are in custody to assist with the investigation, and those found culpable will be prosecuted according to the law.
