Akwa Ibom Police Ban Unauthorized Political Gatherings

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police CP Baba Mohammed Azare, has issued a directive banning political parties and support groups from organizing large public rallies, processions, campaigns, or meetings without obtaining prior permission. This measure aims to prevent potential violence and disturbances caused by political thugs and troublemakers.

In a press statement released on Monday in Uyo, CP Azare explained that prior notification is essential for the Police to coordinate security arrangements, manage traffic, and protect both participants and the public. Organizers are required to inform the Police well in advance, detailing the date, time, venue, expected number of participants, and proposed routes.

The directive is intended to ensure that the rights and activities of one political group do not infringe upon those of another. CP Azare warned that individuals or groups engaging in thuggery, intimidation, or any actions that could disrupt public order will face consequences.

He urged political leaders to ensure their supporters maintain peaceful and coordinated activities.
