Delta Police Arrest Four in Phone Theft Syndicate

On July 25, 2026, the Delta State Police Command arrested four suspects—Johna Omarocha, Kelvin Onogho, Nkechi Nnaji, and Ufuoma Joshua—linked to a phone theft syndicate in Asaba. The arrests followed intelligence-led operations targeting a series of reported thefts from retail shops.

SP Bright Edafe, the police spokesperson, confirmed that the suspects were apprehended at their hideout along St. Brigid’s Road, where nine brand-new Android phones, still in their cartons, were recovered. Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects specialized in stealing new phones from retail outlets in Asaba and surrounding areas.

The suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement in the thefts. The police are continuing efforts to apprehend other members of the gang and identify the owners of the recovered phones.

The syndicate employed a method of disguising as customers to steal phones, using newspapers to conceal the devices while exiting the shops.
