17 Police Officers Killed in Yobe Military Training Attack

On May 8, 2026, a coordinated terrorist attack on a military training facility in Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area, Yobe State, resulted in the deaths of 17 police officers. The Nigerian Police Force confirmed the fatalities following the assault, which occurred at approximately 1:15 AM.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Anthony Placid, the officers were undergoing specialized counter-terrorism training at the facility when the attack took place. The Nigerian Army's special forces engaged in the operation, successfully repelling the assault and killing several attackers.

Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu described the deceased officers as brave personnel who demonstrated a strong commitment to national security. He extended condolences to the families of the fallen officers, assuring that their sacrifices would not be forgotten.

Following the incident, Commissioner of Police Usman Jibrin visited the training facility to commiserate with military authorities and encourage surviving personnel to remain resilient in completing their training programs.
