Police Detain Officers After Motorcyclist's Death in Oyo

The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the death of 35-year-old motorcyclist Sanni Salisu, which occurred during an incident involving police officers at the Moniya headquarters in Akinyele Local Government Area. The incident took place around 11:00 AM when two officers attached to the Kara police outpost allegedly conducted an unauthorized stop and search operation.

During this operation, Salisu reportedly suffered an apparent epileptic seizure and slumped, becoming unresponsive. He was rushed to a hospital in Akinyele but was confirmed dead upon arrival.

This incident sparked tension in the area, with residents reportedly attacking the Kara police outpost and causing damage to property, including three motorcycles and a Mazda patrol vehicle, which were severely burned during the violence. In response, the police command deployed reinforcements to restore law and order and initiated a thorough investigation, leading to the immediate arrest of the officers involved.

The Commissioner of Police directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in the state Criminal Investigation Department to ensure a discreet investigation and autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
