Motorcyclist Dies During Police Stop-and-Search in Oyo

On April 24, 2026, at 11:00 AM, a 35-year-old motorcyclist named Sanni Salisu died during an unauthorized stop-and-search operation conducted by two police officers from the Kara Police Outpost in the Moniya area of Ibadan, Oyo State. During the encounter, Salisu reportedly developed symptoms resembling an epileptic seizure and became unresponsive.

Despite swift efforts by the officers to preserve his life, he was conveyed to Modup Hospital, where he was confirmed dead. This incident sparked unrest among residents, leading to violent reactions, including the burning of the Kara Police Outpost and the destruction of police vehicles.

The Oyo State Police Command, through spokesperson Ayanlad Olayinka, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is underway, with the officers involved currently in custody.
