Police Arrest Car Theft Suspect in Abuja Attempt

On July 22, 2026, at approximately 12:35 p.m., the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Police Force received a distress call from a staff member of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) in Maitama, Abuja. The staff reported observing an unfamiliar individual attempting to gain access to a parked vehicle within the office premises.

A patrol team from the Maitama Police Division was dispatched to the scene, where they arrested 26-year-old Thankgod Ayuba, who had no fixed address, while he was trying to force entry into a black Toyota Venza belonging to the NFIU staff using a fabricated master key. The suspect is currently in police custody and will face charges upon the conclusion of investigations.

Commissioner of Police for the FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD, FCAI, urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police.
