Police Officers and Civilians Killed in Benue Attack

On Thursday at approximately 6:12 PM, an attack occurred in Benue, resulting in the deaths of four police officers and seven civilians. The incident lasted over seven hours, during which the Benue State Police Command engaged the attackers, who invaded the community in large numbers.

According to a statement from Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Peter Aondongu, the police, including personnel from the Police Mobile Force and tactical teams, successfully repelled the attackers after a sustained gun battle. The bodies of the four slain officers were recovered during search and rescue operations in the surrounding bushes.

Additionally, the bodies of seven civilians were also found and taken to a mortuary. State Commissioner of Police, CP Cletus Nwadiogbu, praised the bravery of the officers and extended condolences to the families of the deceased civilians and the Ayilamo community, reaffirming the command's commitment to protecting lives and property.
