Gunmen Kill Four Mobile Cops, Eight Residents in Benue

On Thursday, a violent attack in Ayilamo, located in the Logo local government area of Benue state, resulted in the deaths of four mobile policemen and at least eight residents. The assault involved more than 200 armed men who approached from the Alufu Road axis of Taraba state.

Eyewitness Tyolumun Ugande reported that the attackers fired indiscriminately and set homes ablaze. A detachment of mobile police officers engaged the assailants in a gun battle that lasted several hours.

The bodies of the four slain officers from MoPol 32, Ebonyi, were identified as ASP Paul Ina, Inspector Mohammed Yusuf, Inspector Oge Ikechukwu, and Inspector Edeh Andrew. Other victims included community elders and two children.

This incident marks the second time in a month that mobile policemen have been killed in the area, with a total of 22 officers reportedly killed over time. Residents are urging the federal and Benue state governments for urgent security reinforcements amid ongoing threats linked to alleged mineral deposits in the region.
