Police Raid Home of Ex-Niger Deputy Governor’s Aide

On Monday at approximately 1am, police operatives raided the residence of Lawal Mu’azu-Obah, a former aide to Niger State Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba, in Minna. During the operation, Mu’azu-Obah was taken away, first to the Maitumbi Police Division and later to the Criminal Investigation Department headquarters in Minna.

The police reportedly seized mobile phones belonging to both Mu’azu-Obah and his wife, and he was allegedly assaulted in her presence. His arrest is connected to his recent political activities in Shiroro Local Government Area, where he supported African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Dr Ibrahim Kuta for the Shiroro Constituency seat.

This incident follows a political program held by the All Progressives Congress (APC) where Kuta faced hostility from some attendees. Local youth groups and ADC supporters are organizing protests, viewing the arrest as an attempt to suppress opposition voices.

Niger State Police Public Relations Officer Wasiu Abiodun stated he would verify the incident.
