Police Restore Calm After Kogi Community Reprisal Attack

The Kogi State Police Command announced the restoration of calm in Abugi and neighboring communities after a series of reprisal killings that resulted in the deaths of at least five individuals. This violence was triggered by the killing of a herder in the community on Thursday.

ASP Salisu Afusat, the Command’s spokesperson, stated that the police have taken decisive actions to prevent further escalation and restore peace. The Area Command in Lokoja, alongside relevant security and community stakeholders, has engaged with traditional rulers and community leaders to focus on reconciliation and address the underlying causes of the conflict.

A full-scale investigation is underway by the State Criminal Investigation Department to identify and apprehend those involved in the killings. Personnel have been strategically deployed in the affected areas to ensure safety and prevent further violence.

The Commissioner of Police emphasized the commitment of the Kogi State Police Command to protect residents and urged the public to report any suspicious activities.
